PASSOVER

Psalms 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

The benefits are listed through verse 18, but verse 3 contains the top two: forgiveness of sin and healing of diseases.  Forgiveness of sin—that is what Passover is all about.  What a benefit!  In the very same breath the claim is made that healing our diseases is also a major benefit.  What a blessing this is, also.  God is so concerned with our health that this major benefit is listed in second place right after forgiveness of our sins.  Yet, it seems that there are no dramatic healings today. Every week in services we hear prayer requests for healing of the sick in our midst or the announcement of the death of someone who went unhealed.  As we will see presently, healing and the Passover are inextricably linked together.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Here again, healing and forgiveness of our sins are directly connected.  There is no way to separate the two.  We all take the Passover, and go to great extremes to do so, yet, hardly any of us are healed.  What a paradox!  What a tragedy!  So many unnecessary deaths occur each year because WE ARE TAKING THE PASSOVER UNWORTHILY!

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:

Here is the reason that God put healing into the Passover—so this “good work” CAN be completed as Philippians 1:6 promises. Which one of us can live long enough, healthy enough for God to complete this work in us without life being cut short by a debilitating disease? Or even death? God built healing into the Passover so that we can continue to live and produce faith through experiencing divine healing.  We must attain a certain level of perfection that is apparent only to God. Some may take longer to reach this level than others.

The promise of healing has been so abused, so wrongly used and made light of, with anointings and anointed cloths becoming so mundane that the practice has become an empty ritual.  The understanding that God wants us to have about healing has totally been lost as we have succumbed to Satan’s deceptions.  But HEALING IS BACK, and the precious understanding of God’s intentions for us, also.

Now, let’s examine 1 Corinthians 11:17-32:

17 Now in this that I declare [unto you] I praise [you] not, that ye come together (to keep the passover) not for the better, but for the worse.

Same verse, NIV: “In the following directives, I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.”

Why is Paul criticizing them by saying that their meetings at Passover do more harm than good?  On the surface, verses 18-22 appear to be what Paul is chiding them about:

1 Corinthians 11:18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.   19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.   20 When ye come together therefore into one place, [this] is not to eat the Lord’s supper.   21 For in eating every one taketh before [other] his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.   22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not?  What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise [you] not.

BUT, IT GOES A LOT DEEPER THAN THIS.

1 Corinthians 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the [same] night in which he was betrayed took bread:   24 And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Paul states that he had given the church WHAT CHRIST TAUGHT HIM, and he explains further in verses 25-26 what Christ taught him:

25 After the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me.   26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Now notice verse 27:

27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink [this] cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

“Unworthily” is Strong’s #371, meaning “irreverently-unworthily.”  Vines Dictionary adds, “treating it as a common meal, the bread and cup as common things, NOT APPREHENDING THEIR SOLEMN SYMBOLIC IMPORT…” Webster’s Dictionary defines “irreverently” as “lacking in reverence, disrespectful, lightly or humorously sardonic.”

If you take the Passover service unworthily in the manner described above, you are guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

What is an example of this “unworthiness”, which means “irreverence?”  Here is one we are ALL guilty of: picking and choosing what we want to believe from the scriptures and then reasoning the rest away.  We are to live by every word of God:

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

How UNWORTHY can we get, how disrespectful can we be, how light, how lacking in reverence to PICK AND CHOOSE what we believe?  You and I are “guilty of the body and blood of the Lord” if we do this.  This is like SPITTING IN CHRIST’S FACE.

Matthew 26:67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote [him] with the palms of their hands,

To PICK AND CHOOSE what we will believe is like twisting the spear as we thrust it through His liver, lungs, and heart to INSURE THAT HE ENDURES THE MAXIMUM PAIN.

According to 1 Corinthians 11:27, taking the Passover unworthily makes us GUILTY of two things: the body and blood of Christ.

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

The symbolism of the blood of Jesus Christ is well understood, but what about the body that we are also guilty of?

Psalms 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

“Forgiving all our iniquities” equals the “blood.”

“Healing our diseases” equals the “body.”

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

“Bare our sins” equals the “blood.”  “By whose stripes ye were healed” equals the “body.”  If we PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT WE WANT TO BELIEVE, we are GUILTY of the body and the blood of Christ.  We are the Roman soldier swinging that whip, ripping the flesh right off Christ’s bones.  As we swing that whip back over our head for the next lash, bits and pieces of Christ our Savior’s flesh and blood fly into the faces and mouths of the gawkers behind us.

WHERE DOES ANY HUMAN BEING GET OFF TREATING OUR SAVIOR LIKE THIS?  WE DO THIS BY OUR FLINT HARD ATTITUDES OF PICKING AND CHOOSING WHAT WE ARE GOING TO BELIEVE.  SHAME ON US!

This unworthy, disrespectful attitude continues on daily, weekly, yearly, as we slowly circle Christ’s limp form sending that flesh-tearing whip into his BLOODY, BATTERED, SPIT-COVERED BODY tearing out more flesh and sending it into the faces of the people behind us as we reject and reason away the next bit of truth that the Father and Son offer us.  On and on this goes.

SHAME ON US, ALL OF HUMANITY, FOR TREATING OUR SAVIOR THIS WAY.   WE’VE GOT THE GALL TO THINK THAT CHRIST WILL HEAL US OR SOME LOVED ONE WHILE WE HAVE THIS KIND OF ATTITUDE.   I’M SAYING ON THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS CHRIST’S BLOODY, BATTERED, SPIT-COVERED BODY THAT HE WILL NOT HEAL ANYONE UNTIL THEY REPENT OF THE SPIRITUAL INSANITY OF REPEATEDLY REJECTING GOD’S WORD.

GOD IS NOT IMPRESSED WITH OUR HUMAN REASONING, OUR GOOD INTENTIONS, OUR SCHOLARLY RESEARCH.  IF WE REJECT ANY POINT OF TRUTH IN GOD’S WORD, REGARDLESS OF THE SOURCE FROM WHICH IT COMES, WE ARE GUILTY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.  I AM SAYING AGAIN ON THE AUTHORITY OF THAT BLOODY, BATTERED, SPIT-COVERED BODY THAT WE WILL NOT BE HEALED.

Now, go on to verse 28:

1 Corinthians 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of [that] bread, and drink of [that] cup.

What is meant by “examine” yourself?  The Complete Wordstudy New Testament by Spiros Zodhiates says of this word, dokimos, Strong’s # 1381,”It has the notion of proving a thing whether it be worthy to be received or not… to prove or bring forth the good in us or to make us good… The opposite of dokimos is adokimos (Strong’s #96), unapproved, i.e. rejected; by impl. worthless (lit. or mor.):- castaway, rejected, reprobate.”  This means holding yourself up to God’s standards and comparing yourself with those standards.  Look at Galatians 5:22-23:

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The first fruit of the Spirit is LOVE.  This spiritual love must be directed to God first of all.  DO YOU LOVE GOD’S TRUTH?  THIS BLOODY, BATTERED, SPIT-COVERED CHRIST SAYS, “PROVE IT!  BELIEVE WHAT I SAY IN MY WORD!”

It is spiritual insanity to claim to love God and then not believe what He says in His Word!  WE ARE CALLING HIM A LIAR TO HIS FACE.   THEN WE TURN AROUND AND EXPECT HIM TO HEAL US?  INSANITY!

What about another fruit of the Spirit: faith?  You cannot have faith by believing one verse and not another.  Rejecting ANY of God’s truth leaves us totally VOID OF GODLY FAITH.  All that’s left is our twisted, perverted, MAN-MADE FAITH which is totally unacceptable to God.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Let’s continue on with the “examination.”  Look at Revelation 21:8:

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

“Unbelieving” is Strong’s #571. Zodhiates says: “Apistos; not worthy of confidence, untrustworthy, unbeliever. In the NT in a pass. sense, a thing not to be believed, incredible (Acts 26:8); in an act. sense, not believing (Matt.17:17…). Denotes one who disbelieves the Gospel of Christ, and unbeliever, AN INFIDEL…”

By our unbelieving, picking and choosing, rejecting truth, we continue daily in our murderous attack on this bloody, dying Jesus Christ as we brush aside the verses that do not conform to our preconceived notions.  The unbelievers are lumped right in there along with the cowards, the abominable, the liars, whoremongers, sorcerers, and idolaters.  If we do not repent of our SPIRITUAL INSANITY, then the lake of fire is our destiny! (Revelation 21:8)

If we examine ourselves and come up lacking, whether by picking and choosing what we want to believe, abusing alcohol or other drugs, lusting after men or women? Do we tell “white lies” or abuse the Sabbath? Are we guilty of any of the other “works of the flesh?”  Do we stretch the Ten Commandments to the point of distortion?

We are to examine ourselves HONESTLY.  If we come up lacking, are we to rush off and take the symbols of the Passover anyway?  A RESOUNDING “NO!”  What does Paul say in verses 29 and 30?

1 Corinthians 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.  30 For this cause many [are] weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

“Unworthy” is Strong’s #371, the same as in verse 27.  Review this definition on page two.  If you take the Passover in this lying, disrespectful, hypocritical way, you are cutting your own throat.  You are eating and drinking DAMNATION to yourself, “not discerning the Lord’s body.”

“Discerning” #1252 is defined by Zodhiates Complete Word Study Dictionary New Testament , p.895, “to distinguish, decide, or judge… to make to differ (1 Cor. 4:7; 11:29).”

Verse 30 shows what the “damnation” IS: “many are weak and sickly” and many ARE DEAD (sleep).  WE DO THIS TO OURSELVES.  How PLAIN does God’s word have to get?

1 Corinthians 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

The first word translated “judge” is Strong’s #1252, defined above. “We should not be judged” is #2919. Vines Expository Dictionary states: “l. krino… primarily denotes ‘to determine,’ and so ‘to judge, pronounce judgment.'” The Amplified Bible translates this verse: “For if we searchingly examined ourselves—detecting our shortcomings and recognizing our own condition—we should not be judged and penalty decreed [by the divine judgment].”

Now, read verse 32:

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged (#2919, above), we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

When we are “judged” by this bloody, battered, spit-covered Christ whom we beat daily with our sorry attitudes, we are disciplined by Him.  The discipline is spelled out plainly in verse 30: many are weak, sick and dead.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Who are “my people” in this verse?  They are the people sitting in the congregations of God throughout the world each Sabbath, including the living room churches of God who are disillusioned by the “system.”  They are also the “second generation” who are in most cases “hell-bent” to do things their own way.  All the rejecters are being destroyed for lack of knowledge.  Then, when true knowledge is presented to them from God’s Word, they reject it again and again.  In doing so, they SPIT in our Savior’s face and rip more of the flesh from His body with the whip.

God must be shaking His head in disbelief.  “Why can’t they believe what I say?”  He must be thinking, “Why do they insist on believing the lies that Satan has used to deceived them?  They cannot disprove the strange, new understanding that has been pointed out to them, yet they will not believe it. Because they reject knowledge, I will reject them from being priests in My Kingdom (Hosea 4:6).  The lake of fire is their destiny.”

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

We are judged by what it written in the books, not by what we THINK is written there, or our opinions of the person or method God uses to reveal this knowledge to us.  God does as He pleases.  He used an ass to talk to Balaam.
