SATAN AND THE DEMONS

Can Satan and the demons hurt you physically? Think about that! Until Sunday March 5, 2000, my answer to that question was NO.

You bet they can hurt us, even to the point of death. If you don’t believe it, ask Job’s seven sons and three daughters.

Job 1:2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

Now read Job 1:18,19.

Job 1:18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Notice it doesn’t say here that the daughters were killed. It just says the young men were killed, but Job 1:12-15 adds more to the story, as well as Job 42:12-13 which implies that the daughters died also.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Job 42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

What a horrible day in Job’s life, all ten of his children wiped out in one disaster brought on by Satan. No body even mentioned Mrs. Job, all you mothers can know more how she felt, better than us men. The mother’s love is stronger possibly, than the Father’s.

If she were anything close to a normal mother, she would have been hysterical with grief.

Job 2:9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die.

This verse seems to indicate she got somewhat bitter, but no doubt she got over it. Any human being can stand just so much. They not only lost 10 children, but all their riches in one day.

Job 1:13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

“Day” is Strong’s #3117, meaning “to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether lit. (from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next)…”

Now, can Satan and his demons hurt us physically or not? Satan has to operate inside the bounds that God sets.

Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Job 2:6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

Notice in verse 12, Satan could do anything except touch Job personally.

God gave Satan permission to kill Job’s sons and daughters. Is that the God you know?

In Job 2:6, God grants Satan the permission to do anything to Job short of taking his life. I ask again, is this the God you know?

On D-day, or disaster day for Job, he not only lost his sons and daughters and his wealth, but Satan also killed most of his servants.

Job 1:15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee…

19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Will we believe God’s word or not? How many human beings were executed on that particular day? There could have been dozens of servants involved. No doubt Job and Mrs. Job had great affection for many or all of them.

So why did God allow this? I Cor. 10:11 is the first reason.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

We’ve been brainwashed by Satan to make us believe that human life is nearly the most important thing in the cosmos, and certainly that God would spare it in all but the most severe cases. But the fact is that, in the grand schemeof things, to God human life is nothing. He can take it in a flash. He can restore it in a flash.

God is interested in sterling character like Job had, and what ever it takes for God to cultivate that character in us, that is what he will do, even to the point of taking our kids away from us and storing them in the ground until a future resurrection!

Did it take the severity of this attack by Satan on Job to get his attention? Apparently it did.  What will it take from God to get our attention?

The more hardheaded we are spiritually, the more we refuse to believe and live by what is written it the Bible, the more severe God will have to deal with us. It is our response to what is written in the Bible that determines how God will deal with us. As I have said many times in papers, Mt.25:5 is true and there are no exceptions. You and I or your favorite minister, if you have one, are not the exception to Mt. 25:5.

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they ALL slumbered and slept.

“All” does not exclude you or me; it includes us all. We sleep until we hear the cry at midnight.

Matthew 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

The sounder we sleep spiritually, the harder God will have to shake us to wake us up. We make it harder by our refusal to believe what God’s Word says, and most of the time we will not believe it, because we don’t like the source from which it comes. Will God have to allow Satan to take one or two of your kids to wake you up? Or will He have to allow Satan to afflict you with some terminal disease to get your attention? Do not think for a second that we, the end time virgins, are immune to what God let Satan do to Job.

I Cor. 10:11 is true, and Job’s example was written for our warning.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

“Examples” is Strong’s #5179: “a die (as struck), i.e. (by impl.) a stamp or scar; by anal. a shape, i.e. statue, (fig.) style or resemblance; spec. a sampler (“type“), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning).”

Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study New Testament says, “type, as a constituent element of a parable or model of some reality which was yet to appear, a prototype of that which was yet to be developed and evolved.”

“Admonition” is Strong’s #3559: “calling attention to, i.e. (by impl.) mild rebuke or warning.”

“World” is Strong’s #165: “prop. an age; by extens. perpetuity (also past); by impl. the world; spec. (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future):—age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-]ever, (beginning of the , while the) world (began, without end).”

God has no sadistic pleasure in human suffering.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

As mentioned earlier, God’s purpose for humans is to develop that sterling character that He requires for us to qualify to become his son or daughter.

This idea that we can act any way we want, accuse others like Job’s three friends did, disregard God’s written word and the instruction written there for the end time virgins and yet still receive God’s grace is a blatant deception from Satan.  If we are outside God’s word and refuse to repent and get inside the bounds of it, there will be no grace for us.  Refusing to believe what God’s written word says for whatever reason is calling God a liar, and this will not be tolerated by God unless repentance is forth coming.  Let me give you an example.

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

“Perfect” is Strong’s # 8535 and the primary meaning is “complete…”

Now notice the command, (not suggestion):

Mt.5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

“Perfect” is Strong’s # 5046. Here again, the primary meaning is “complete”…  Now is not God’s word telling us we have to come up to the level of Jobs completeness at minimum? His example is written as our prototype according to I Cor.10 :11.

Dare we think that Jesus Christ will apply his blood to us at Passover when we blatantly, hardheadedly, refuse to believe what he says? Notice how Christ pleads with us.

Deut. 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

We need to correctly divide the Word of Truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Even before Job’s calamities hit, God was calling him complete. Then what happened?

John 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

This verse was being applied to him even before it was written for us.

Can Satan and his demons hurt us physically? You bet they can. Notice what happened to Job, and these two mighty Gods that inhabit eternity allowed it.

Job 2:7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

Notice also verse 6.

Job 2:6, And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

God set the bounds; anything goes short of taking Job’s life. God turned the most evil, sadistic, cruel mind of all time loose on Job with no restriction except taking his life.

Do you have this concept of God in your mind, that He would allow you or me to suffer physically at the hands of Satan? If you do not, you need to get it because this is the real God we serve. Remember this happened even after God was calling Job a perfect (complete) man.

Did Job feel like he was being punished for something he did not do? Of course he did, for he was not aware of the deal that Satan made with God recorded in the first two chapters of Job. He was just the victim. We can be victims also. Do not kid yourself that we cannot.

I felt like the victim of some evil game that Satan was and is still playing in my life. I expressed this to God many times in prayers, before I started to understand the Job principal. To make a long story short, my wife and I are homebuilders, our corporation is ‘Solid Rock Inc.’   We have not sold a house since Nov. 30, 1998. Our corporation lost $57,000.00 last year, 1999, and my wife and I have been living on personal savings since June 1999.   Every other local builder is selling houses even right beside ours that will not sell. Satan rubs it in our face. That is why I started feeling like the victim of an evil game Satan was playing.

I am aware of two more people in God’s church that may very well be the victims of Satan’s evil games.   The more clearly I see what God allows Satan to do, the more clear it becomes that Satan has these two people standing at death door, one with liver failure, followed by a transplant, and the other with stomach cancer. I have mentioned both these people in papers going back at least six months now. (Today is June 6, 2002 and they still are not healed.)

Back to Job, can you imagine the pain this man suffered, so evidently it went on for months.

Job 7:3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

The word “boils” in Job 2:7 is Strong’s #7822 meaning, “to burn, inflammation, and ulcer, boil, botch.”

Having had some experience with boils as a child, but only one at a time, I remember the severe pain they caused. Can Satan hurt us? You bet he can. Study the Job scenario, and put your name in place of Job’s.

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Job 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

Job 2:3  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

Insert your own name, “And He said, have you considered my servant, Joe Christian, and God set the bounds on what Satan could do to Joe.”

Will you believe God’s word or not? If you are an end time virgin with God’s Holy Spirit, He will wake you up with the cry at midnight. It’s to our advantage to wake up easily, so God won’t have to deal harshly with us, but foolish and wise alike, wake up we will.

Mt.25:6  And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

What we do after we wake up determines whether or not we get into the Kingdom.

Let us look in the New Testament and see what God says about demons and Satan hurting us physically. We know the story of how Satan entered Judas and had Christ murdered.

John 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

Were demons allowed to hurt the person described in Mat.17:15, also Luke 9:39?

Matthew 17:15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

Luke 9:39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.

How many ugly scars were on this man’s son from being burned? How many close brushes with death did his son have from near drowning incidents? Did this grossly evil demon inflict severe pain on this man’s son? You bet he did, and God allowed it.  This man’s son is dead now, but is that demon still plying his trade amongst human being to this day? There is a good chance that he is.

Notice the word “bruising” in Luke 9:39.  It is Strong’s #4937, meaning “to crush completely, i.e. to shatter (lit. or fig.) break in pieces…”  I shudder to think of the pain and misery that this evil demon inflicted on this man’s son, not to mention the emotional sufferings of the father and mother. Hey, the God we worship allowed this.

Does I Cor.10:11 apply here? Now all these things happened unto them for examples and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Review the definition given on page 4.

This affliction had been going on for many years. Notice the same account in Mark 9:21.

Mark 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

The verse makes it plain that this man’s son could have been a teenager or even an adult. Apparently, the bounds were set so that this demon could not kill the man’s son.

Mark 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

The word ”destroy” is Strong’s # 622, meaning “to destroy fully, to perish, or lose…”

Will we see this man and his son and wife in the first resurrection? I hope so. Was this their “Job experience,” written down for us?  I just cannot imagine how much mental anguish the parents of this boy or young man must have suffered. In my mind, probably the most horrible thing that could happen to me is to have to bury one of my kids.

I grew up with a boy named Jimmy. What tragedy his mother experienced. She and her husband had four sons. She buried not only her husband, but also three of her sons including my friend Jimmy who died of a brain tumor at about age 30.

God not only allows nature to take its course as I think it did in Jimmy’s family, but he allows Satan and his demons to inject themselves into the natural flow of life and cause untold suffering on us humans.

Most of the world has heard of the Columbine Massacre that happen in Littleton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. I think it was last April 20, 1999, that two students, cold-bloodedly planned and carried out the satanic murder of 12 students and one teacher.

Are we naive enough to think that some evil demon or demons didn’t master mind this whole scenario, and no doubt used these two possessed students to inflict the horrible suffering on innocent people? What misery, what suffering inflicted on the innocent by these evil demons. Three of the survivors are in wheel chairs with spinal cord damage, and most likely will have a shorter and less productive life because of these injuries. Now notice Luke 13:11, 16.

Luke 13:11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

In verse 11, the word ‘infirmity’ is Strong’s #769 meaning “feebleness (of body or mind)…”  “Bowed together” is Strong’s #4794, meaning, “to stop altogether, i.e. to be completely overcome by; bow together…”

Berry’s Greek to English Interlinear translates “bowed together” as “bent together”.

What a wretched health condition brought on by Satan. I would have to assume that she was a healthy normal woman before that. The only way I can picture her, and this may or may not be accurate, is that her head was at waist level constantly looking at the ground, as she walked. I wonder how many serious falls she had because her center of gravity was off.

Think about this for a second, would you or any of your normal friends or family members inflict another human or animal with this affliction if you had it in your power to do it?

What incredible evil depraved minds Christians have to deal with in the demons and Satan, and we are totally helpless to do anything about except with God’s help. Remember that God allows these evil spirit beings to do theirdirty work. How many friends and family members do we know who are suffering from the hands of Satan or some demon with what we think is some physical ailment?  We are still to much asleep to see what is going on, Mt.25:5. What a horrible affliction this woman endured for eighteen years at the hands of Satan with God’s permission.

This is written down for us:

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Now go to Acts 19:13-16

Acts 19:13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

It is clear from these verses that these evil demons have to be dealt with in a certain way. We will look at that later.

One man in whom the evil demon lived was able to whip seven non-possessed men. He must have attacked with a fierceness they could not handle. If we are to believe God’s word, he apparently ripped their clothes off and inflicted physical injury on them. ‘Wounded is Strong’s # 5135 meaning “to inflict a wound…” So, here again is a Bible example of demons actually applying a physical hurt on a physical human being. Don’t forget these same evil minds that were at work 2000 years ago are still at work now. They will be turning up the heat on us as they know they have but a short time.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Now go to Mt. 8:28

28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

Notice this account says two were possessed with devils.

Mark 5:2 implies one man.

Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Also in Luke 8:27 it says, “a certain man.”

Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

Apparently Mark and Luke give accounts of the two individual men and Christ dealing with them. At least, that the way it seems to me.

Study these accounts. It is hard for me to fathom the hatred these evil being have for us humans, their hapless victims.

I inject the question, would you treat another human being in this manner, turning him into a wild ferocious beast?  Even if you had the power at your disposal to do so, you couldn’t pass a sentence like that on your worst enemy, stripping away all human dignity and turning him into a wild animal.

How horrible, wretched, and depraved are the minds of Satan and his demons, and we end time Christians have to deal directly with these minds.  Christ is our only hope. Here again these demons inflict pain or hurt us the end time Christians. You bet they can.

Notice that these demons DO have a great fear.

Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

“Country” is Strong’s # 5561. This is from the base # 5490, “through the idea of empty expanse; room i.e. a space of territory (more or less extensive often includes its inhab.) coast, country, fields ground land, region.”

Luke 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

“Deep” is Strong’s # 12, meaning “depthless i.e. (spec) (infernal) abyss; deep, (bottomless) pit.”

Mt. 8:29 adds more to this thought.

29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

“Torment” is Strong’s # 928 meaning to “torture…” “Time” is Strong’s #2540, meaning “an occasion, i.e. set or proper time…”

These demons were begging Christ for mercy, not to send them to the bottomless pit described in Rev. 20:1-3 before the set time.

Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

How ironic. Notice how much mercy these demons showed these men whom they possessed. That’s typical of some human thinking. I can dish out, but I can’t take it. Would these same demons send some human to a bottomless abyss or nothingness? Isn’t that what they, in reality, did to these two men? They stripped away their human dignity made wild animals out to them. Wasn’t this a bottomless, endless, nothing of existence for these two men? We end time virgins are the potential victims of these evil spirit beings. Their whole goal is to destroy all the sons and daughters of God.

There is an urgency about the situation shown in Rev 12:12 and I Peter 5:8. So what can we do? God has not left us completely helpless or hopeless.

There is a way we can deal with these demons, but we have to do it by God’s word and method. Nothing else will work. Go to Luke 10:17-20.

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

The word “subject” in verse 17 is Strong’s #5293 meaning “to subordinate, to obey, to be under obedience, put under…”  Notice that these demons have to obey us, to be subordinate, have to be under obedience, to us through themighty name of Jesus Christ.

In verse 19, the first word “power” is Strong’s # 1849, meaning “(in the sense of ability) privilege, i.e. force, capacity, competency, freedom mastery …”  Zodhiates’ Lexical Aids to the New Testament says of this word “power,” it is “permissible, allowed, permission, authority, right, liberty, power to do anything…”

“Tread” is Strong’s # 3961, meaning “a path, to trample (lit or fig) (tread down under foot).”  Zodhiates’ Lexical Aids to the New Testament says of this word ‘tread,’ a path, a beaten way, to tread, trample…”  Berry’s Greek to English Interlinear says, “I give you the authority to tread upon.”

Notice how this same word is used in Rev. 14:20 and the following verses where it is “trodden.”

Rev. 14:20  And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Rev. 19:15 – (treadeth)

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Luke 21:24 – (here it is trodden)

24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Let’s review what we just learned in Luke 10:17, 19.  Do you get the full impact of what it says in verse 17 that the word ‘subject’ means that the demons have to obey, to be subordinate, have to be under obedience to us, if we use the Name of this mighty Jesus Christ properly? We have the power, the force, the capacity, the authority, and the right, to tread, to trample, to walk on. Do you get it? We have the power through Jesus Christ to walk on these demons, if we use it properly.

Now the question has to be asked, is it men (males) only who have the power to trample on demons? If you think so, I would challenge you to prove it. Where does it say it was men only?

Luke 9:1,2 – Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

The Twelve are men we can be sure, because we have their names in other places. These seventy could have been all men, but there very well could have been some husband and wife teams. Luke 10:1 says that Christ appointed seventy.

Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

If a woman cannot cast out a demon, trample on and make a demon obey her through Jesus Christ’s Name, how can she do Philippians 2:12?

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

For you people who might want to take away unjustly from women what God says they can have, how would you explain Acts 8:4?

Acts 8:4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

Does “they” include women? Where does it say men only? “Preaching” is Strong’s #2097 meaning “to announce Good news (evangelize) especially the gospel…”

God would be a respecter of persons if woman couldn’t deal with demons and that would make her subject to the male hierarchy system.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

How would your explain Luke 10:23?

Luke 10:23 And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:

The word “disciples” is Strong’s #3101 meaning a “learner, i.e. pupil – disciple.” Are there no women who are learners? Are we not adding to God’s word if we insist that Luke 10:19 means men only? Christ says I have given you, so does this not include all disciples? Why doesn’t it say you men?

Berry’s Greek to English interlinear says, “I give you authority.” Berry does not imply it is men only. Green’s Greek to English Interlinear says, “Behold I have given you the authority

Does “you” include women?  Let me give you an example of what I heard on March 15, 2000. A good friend was having problems with demons actually causing her son to have seizures. I’ll skip most of the story except for this. I confronted the mother as to when she was going to deal with these demons, command and rebuke them in Christ Name. Her response was, well I thought the elders would do that. So with her attitude, Satan would for sure put an elder who is a hierarchist over her and God would allow it, because she would refuse to confront the situation Biblically. The bottom line is that God will not accept a passive Christian. You women had better learn to deal with demons and not depend on some man to do it for you.

There is just one more point I want to cover in this paper. Christ gives us a warning not to rejoice because demons are subject to us.

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

“Rejoice” is Strong’s #5463 meaning “to be cheerful, i.e. calmly, happy…”  We are to rejoice because the Father has found it in His will to write our names in heaven, no doubt in the book of life. Can we use this power foolishly or indiscriminately? No, we have to use it properly.

Notice Luke 10:17:

Luke 10:17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

The “devils” are subject to us through Christ’s Name. This automatically means we have to be in close contact with Christ and the Father and be on the same ‘page’ that they are on.

Notice:

Luke 8:29 For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.

Christ commanded the demon. The demon had to obey Christ.

Verse 31: And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

The demon was begging for mercy that Christ would not “command” him, so the instruction here is clear. If Christ commands and they obey, then if we command in Christ’s Name they have to obey, if our spiritual house is in order, (Luke 10:17).

Look at Mat. 8:31-32.

31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

The word “go” in verse 32 was a command.  Now, read Mark 5:13.

13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.

Notice the term “gave them leave.” Jesus Christ is clearly in charge. Now read Mat. 17:18, Mark 9:25, Luke 9:42.

Matthew 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

Mark 9:25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

Luke 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

Here are examples of Christ rebuking demons, so here again, the instruction is clear. We can do the same in Christ’s name.  We had better be sure our spiritual house is in order or something similar to the following example may happen to us. Read Acts 19:13-16

As mentioned earlier, we will have to use this power wisely, and we had better have all our ducks in a row spiritually when we start dealing with demons. Understand: we have no power against them except through Christ name, none what so ever. We are totally helpless and subject to demons except through the help of Christ.

Did these people in verse 13 have all their ducks in a row? They no doubt were in Satan’s camp, being vagabonds and exorcists. Green’s Interlinear translates ‘vagabond’ as “strolling.” Strong’s # 4022 has a similar definition, if you care to look it up. “Vagabond” seems to be a good translation for what these men were. Notice they took it upon them selves to cast out these demons.

For us, the end time Christians, God will give us this knowledge and power over demons as we need and are able to handle it. Study the rest of the account through verse 16. This is not something to be played around with. As with everything God expects us to do, He gives us instructions on how to do it. There is a way to deal with demons outlined in God’s word. The wise virgins will understand these instructions and reap the benefits.

I am going to end this paper rather abruptly. I will soon write another paper on Judging Angels.

Without staying close to God the Father and Christ through prayer, fasting and obedience we are at the mercy of these demons and Satan.
