THE POWERS THAT BE

The powers that be are ordained of God.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Let’s look and see what God says about the “powers that be” and how you and I fit into the grand scheme of things.

You may be shocked as to where an end time Christian fits in.  I’m referring to the spirit world where as a physical human we are completely on the bottom and are at the mercy of the more powerful spirit beings.  But if you haveGod’s Spirit and are an end time Christian, this puts you on different level.  You may very well be surprised at how high this power level is.  God has certain rules and regulations for us, so we can tap that source of power.  What we do with that information determines whether or not we enter God’s Kingdom.

If we want to obtain salvation, we better consider Philippians 2:12 a command.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

This is not a suggestion.  God the Father is number one in power.  As a matter of fact, he is number one in everything, as we all should know. Christ willingly and publicly admitted that the Father is the Greatest.

John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father, for my Father is greater than I.

God the Father has delegated all power in heaven and in earth to Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

We can have access to some of this power that this awesome Jesus Christ has, if we have our spiritual house in order.  We have to belong to Christ and be under his care.

Psalms 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Now who is most powerful in the cosmos under the Father and Christ?  It must be the three archangels, Michael, Gabriel, and the Fallen one, Satan.

(Today is August 29, 2000, several months later.  Since this was written, I’ve learned that there is at least one angel stronger than the archangels described in Rev. 20:1-2.  Notice He didn’t need any help handling Satan.

Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.)

Apparently in Daniel 10, Gabriel and Satan are in a power struggle and seem to be of equal power.   Notice verse 13.

Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

There was a stand off for 21 days, then Michael came to help.  It seems that these two beings were the same in power, Satan and Gabriel, so Michael tipped the power struggle onto the side of good.  Notice I said “if” this was Gabriel, for as far as I know there are only three archangels mentioned by name.

But notice again what it says in verse 13.  It says Michael, one of the chief princes.  If two of the chief princes were locked in combat with their mighty power and it took Michael to tip the balance of power, verse 13, it sure seems to indicate that there are more of these mighty archangels than just the three we know by name.  That may or may not be the case.

Notice in verse 21 of Daniel 10, “But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.”

It says, “Michael your prince”.  Michael seems to be the archangel in charge of the church.

Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

There could very well be more than three archangels, as Dan. 10:13 seems to indicate.   And this mighty angel in the power struggle with Satan in Dan. 10:13, may not be Gabriel at all.   Whether or not this was Gabriel or another powerful angel whose name we don’t know really makes no difference to our salvation process.  Daniel 10:20 tells us he returned to continue the fight after talking to Daniel.

Daniel 10:20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

Gabriel was named in two other instances when he was sent to Daniel. This is the best guess as to who is in combat with Satan.

Daniel 8:16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

Daniel 9:21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

Where is our battlefield in the end time?  Where are the front lines?  They are in your house among your mates and children.  They’re in your schools, your local, state and federal government.  They’re on your job.   They are with your employer, employees, your customers, your health, and your family’s health.  There is not any aspect of human existence in which Satan and his demons won’t attack us.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Now consider whom we are fighting and wrestling against.  It isn’t against flesh and blood.  We just fight against flesh and blood as these demons deceive and use other humans against us.  You will be shocked when you see how much Satan uses other humans against you.

Green’s Interlinear Bible Greek to English translates “principalities” in verse 12 as “rulers.”  It is Strong’s # 746, which comes from Strong’s # 756, “(properly-abstractly) a commencement, or (concretely) chief, (in various applications of) order, time, place, or rank…”

We have to fight “powers,” Strong’s # 1849, from Strong’s # 1832 meaning, “(in the sense of ability) privilege, (subj.) force, capacity, competency, freedom…”

“Rulers” is Strong’s # 2888 meaning, “a world ruler, an epithet of Satan, -ruler.”

“Darkness” is Strong’s 4655 meaning, “shadiness i.e. obscurity (lit. or fig.) darkness.”

Zodhiates’ Lexical Aids to the New Testament says of this same word, “to restrain, stop (for when one is overcome by night he is forced to stop)…”

“Wickedness” is Strong’s # 4189 meaning, “depravity, i.e. (spec.) malice…”

The word “high” is Strong’s # 2032 meaning, “above the sky, celestial, heavenly…”

So this is one aspect of the powers that be.  We don’t fight other humans.  We have to fight other humans as Satan and the demons use them against us, for Satan is the god of this world.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The real fight is against the powers that control other human minds.  Satan and the demons have their recreation by tormenting humans.

Luke 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

“Rest” is Strong’s # 372 meaning, “intermission, (by imp.)  recreation…”

Remember the woman that Satan kept bound for eighteen years?  Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

Satan must have been having lots of fun tormenting this woman.  You women can know that these demons are having fun or “recreation” when they cause some woman to be raped by a man who is demon possessed or influenced.  Also imagine their “fun” using the Hitler’s, the Stalin’s, and all the other dictators who have inflicted so much misery on other humans of lesser power and status.  These are the results of demons having their recreation.   When a demon leaves Hitler or some other despot, does he cease to exist?   No, he just moves on to his next human victim.

As you come to see and understand demons, you will recognize when they are having their recreation.  This is one aspect of “the powers that be” that humans have to cope with.  We are totally helpless unless we have help from Jesus Christ and the Father.  So how do we deal with these evil “powers that be,” that manifest themselves in other humans in positions of authority?  God gives us the information on how to do it, if we are willing to believe his word.

Look at Ephesians 6:10.  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

“Might” is Strong’s # 2479 meaning, “forcefulness, (lit. or fig.) ability…”

“Power” is Strong’s # 2904 meaning, “vigor, great (lit. or fig.), dominion, might…”

We are to be strong in the Lord’s power and might.  “Strong” is Strong’s # 1743 meaning, “to empower, enable, (increase in) strength, make strong.”  Verse 11 tells us we have to have our spiritual house in order to stand against Satan.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

“Wiles” is Strong’s # 3180 meaning, “method, traveling over, i.e., travesty, (trickery)…”

As we will see later, we quite literally have to stand and go eye to eye with Satan and these demons.  Praying about it won’t do much good, except that God will give you the necessary spiritual help to stand and fight, not kneel and pray, as we learn how to handle the evil powers that be.  Christ and the righteous angels will be there to back us up, but there is much we have to apply and do ourselves.

Verses 13-15 tell us to have the whole armor of God, in other words, to be totally submersed in God’s word, believing and doing.  We have to be wrapped in God’s truth.  This is a key to salvation.  God’s truth shows us how to overcome the evil “powers that be.”

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

This verse means what it says.  We can be liberated from the evil “powers that be,” but there is only one way that this can happen and that is to have God’s truth.  Verse 16 gives us another key we must have, the shield of faith.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Are we willing to believe God’s word and have this faith?  If not, you will never be free from the evil “powers that be.”   Furthermore, you cannot be in God’s Kingdom because you can’t overcome Satan and his demons.

“Fiery” is Strong’s # 4448 means, “to kindle, i.e. (pass.) to be ignited, glow (lit.),  be refined (by impl.) or fig. to be inflamed with (anger, grief, lust)…”

“Darts” is Strong’s #956 meaning,  “missile, i.e., spear or arrow…”

Why does God use the symbols of warfare here, such as armor, shield, sword, etc.?  Because you are in life and death combat with Satan and the demons.  Your eternity is at stake.  If you lose this battle with Satan, the king of demons and his subjects, you lose eternity.  Praying by itself won’t get the job done.

Being a passive Christian makes you a loser.  Why do I say that?  Once this knowledge is available to you, praying will only give you the understanding you need in order to act.  You have to go on the offensive. You know what would happen to a passive solider in hand to hand combat.  Well, “hand to hand” or rather “mind to mind” combat is what we face with Satan and the demons.  Talking to the generals in charge will do little good.  The general in this case (Christ) will give you all the battle gear you need to win the battle, but you have to be willing to fight.  Salvation won’t be forced on anyone, but if you argue with the general (Christ), if you don’t like the way he supplies your needs, in other words, if you don’t like the source of this truth, this knowledge, you will lose in your battle with Satan.  Don’t forget that Satan and the demons are super powers compared to us mortal humans.  Let’s look at some instruction on how to do battle with these evil super powers.

Notice, James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

“Resist” is Strong’s #436 meaning, “to stand against, i.e. oppose, resist, withstand.”  Notice it doesn’t say to kneel and pray or talk to General Jesus Christ.   Now don’t take this wrong, because praying is an absolute must for entry into the kingdom. What I’m saying is praying won’t make the demons go away.  We as Christians have to go on the offensive and counter attack Satan and the demons when we come under a barrage of fiery darts.

As we go through this paper you will see that we have a source of power, a big stick in other words, and that Christ expects us to use it.  That’s why praying won’t make the trial go away once this knowledge is available to us. We are on a different level with Satan and his evil attacks on us, and Christ expects us to use that big stick.  Go to Mt. 11:12 and Luke 16:16.

Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

What do these two verses tell you?  Do they indicate we can be a passive Christian and make it into the kingdom?  Hardly! Can we just pray about the problem and God will make it go away?  Are we to think that these two verses are mistakes, and they don’t mean what they say?

Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Look back at verse 12.  Doesn’t it say the Kingdom has to be taken?  The fact is that Satan and the demons have power over you and will take away your eternal life if you refuse to follow Christ’s instructions.

“Violence” and “presseth” are both Strong’s # 971 meaning, “to force, i.e. (reflex) to crowd oneself into or (pass) to be seized…”

Zodhiates’ Lexical aids to the New Testament says of this word, Strong’s #971, “to overpower, compel

“Violent” is Strong’s # 973 meaning, “a forcer…”  The word “force” is Strong’s # 726 meaning, “to seize…”    Zodhiates says of this word, “to strip, spoil, snatch, literally to seize upon with force, to rob…”

Green’s Interlinear Greek to English translates “force”, in Mt. 11:12 as, “seize.”

Berry’s Greek to English Interlinear does the same thing. “Force” is translated “seize.”

Now, what do these two verses say?  In Matthew 11:12, when is “now“?

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

“Examples” is Strong’s #5179: “a die (as struck), i.e. (by impl.) a stamp or scar; by anal. a shape, i.e. statue, (fig.) style or resemblance; spec. a sampler (“type“), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning).”

Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study New Testament says, “type, as a constituent element of a parable or model of some reality which was yet to appear, a prototype of that which was yet to be developed and evolved.”  This tells us it is now, year 2000, the end of the age, because this is all written for the end time Christians.

Christ says in no uncertain term that the kingdom has to be seized by us.  We have to force or crowd ourselves into it.  We have to overpower the opposition that is in our way and compel the opposition to move.  The forcers, the true Christians, seize the kingdom.  That is you. That includes us all.  We have to force our way into the kingdom.  There is no easy entry.

The “powers that be,” the evil ones, have our access to God’s Kingdom blocked, and we have to force our way into it.  We have to seize it.  As we will see later in this paper, we have the power through the second Greatest power that is, JESUS CHRIST, to literally trample, walk on, the evil “powers that be.”

This is why Eph. 6:12 says what it does, that we fight against the mighty evil powers.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We just fight flesh and blood as Satan and the demons use other humans against us.  As your mind starts to put all this together, you will see there is much of that.

Now let’s look at our heavy weapons, if you understand God’s word and are willing to believe it.   I have covered this in several other papers, but it is so important and is tied directly to whether or not we enter into God’s Kingdom.

Let’s look at it again.  Go to Mat. 8:28-32.

Matthew 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.

31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.

32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

Verse 28 says that there were two men possessed with demons.  Notice how they start to plead their case, for they know there is a set day when they will pay their dues.

In verse 29, “torment” is Strong’s # 928 meaning, “to torture…” And “time” is Strong’s # 2540 meaning, “an occasion, i.e. set or proper time…”

Now go to Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

It could be that Mark 5:2 and Luke 8:27 describe each one of these two men mentioned in Mt. 8.

Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

Mark 5:3-5 describes the life style of this man. How horrible, this is what demons can do to a person!

Mark 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

This begging for mercy infuriates me, because these demons can dish it out, but they can’t take it!

“Torment” is Strong’s # 928, as we just covered in Matthew.

In verse 10 of Mark 5: And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.    This tells us what they fear.  “Country” is Strong’s #5561 meaning, “through the idea of empty expanse, i.e. a space of territory (more or less extensive) often includes its inhabitants…”  So these demons don’t want to leave the “country” with its human inhabitants.  They can have no fun if they are not tormenting some human.

Now go on to Luke 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.

Here again they are begging for mercy.  “Torment” is Strong’s #928, the same as the other two verses meaning to torture.

Luke 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

They are still begging not to be sent to the deep.  All Christ had to do was say the word and they were gone.   We, too, can command demons in Christ Name and they have to obey.  This word “deep” shows what they fear most.  It is Strong’s #12 meaning, “depthless i.e. (spec) (infernal) abyss, deep (bottomless pit).

These demons were begging for mercy, sorry beings that they are.  They have no problem tormenting, torturing, and making life miserable for helpless humans.  But when they are threatened with exile to the bottomless pit, it’s a completely different story.  Turn to Luke 9:1 and notice that Christ gave the twelve disciples power and authority.

Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

“Power” is Strong’s # 1411 meaning, “force, (lit or fig) spec, miraculous power (usually by impl.) a miracle itself…”

“Authority” is Strong’s # 1849 meaning, “in the sense of ability privilege, i.e. (subj.) force, capacity, competency, freedom…”

“Disciples” is String’s # 3101 meaning “a learner, i.e. pupil…”  Are we not learners or pupils of this Mighty God and Christ?  Isn’t the Bible written for us?

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

“Examples” is Strong’s #5179: “a die (as struck), i.e. (by impl.) a stamp or scar; by anal. a shape, i.e. statue, (fig.) style or resemblance; spec. a sampler (“type“), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning).”

Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study New Testament says: “type, as a constituent element of a parable or model of some reality which was yet to appear, a prototype of that which was yet to be developed and evolved.”

Now go over to Luke 10:17, where the 70 returned with great joy.

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

“Subject” is Strong’s # 5293 meaning, “subordinate, reflex to obey, be under obedience…”

Continue on with what Christ told them in verse 19.  The first word “power” here is Strong’s # 1849, the same as “authority” in Luke 9:1.  Review that definition above.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

“Tread “in verse 19 is Strong’s # 3961 meaning, “a path, to trample, (lit or fig) tread (down under foot).”  The second word “power” is Strong’s # 1411 meaning “force, (lit. or fig.) especially miraculous power usually by implying miracle itself…”

In reality Christ was giving the Twelve as well as the Seventy the ability to trample on, to walk on, to put the evil “powers that be” in the place they fear most.   We can have that same authority over these evil demons and Satan. Christ is very willing and able to give it to us, but we have to believe and obey God’s Word.

Go back to verse 17.  The devils were subordinate to the Seventy through Christ’s name and can be subordinate to us today once we learn to use Christ’s name properly and acquire accurate Biblical knowledge.  Now notice I Cor. 6:3, because here is some more authority that we have over the evil “powers that be.”

1 Corinthians 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

“Judge” is Strong’s # 2919 meaning, “to distinguish, i.e. decide (mentally or judicially) by impl. to try, condemn, punish, avenge…”  What does this tell us?   It tells us we are to try, condemn, and punish angels.

Read my paper on judging angels for a full explanation.  But to make a long story short, righteous angels need no judging.   The fate of the demons and Satan is already sealed and written down for us to read in Ezekiel 28:12-19. The time frame of I Cor. 6:3 is for us right now.  The reality of the whole scenario is that Satan and the demons have your eternity and mine in their control through the massive deceptions and the miracles they perform in using other people against us though the whole world’s system in general.

The educational system of this world is mostly contrary to God’s way.  Even in “Christian” schools the education is not of the True God.  The fact is God’s word is screaming to us through the pages of the Bible.  We will start to see and understand this as God wakes us from our sleep.

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

“Resist” is Strong’s #436 meaning, “to stand against, oppose…”  You have to take the kingdom by force seize it.  It’s shouting that you have power over Satan to trample on him and the demons to tread them down.  God is also shouting for you to “try these demons sentence them, condemn, punish.  I’ve given you power to put them were they fear the most, the bottomless pit.”

Did Peter, Paul, and the early church know this?  You bet they did.  Look in Revelation. 9:1 at the results of this sentencing by us, and no doubt them also.  Notice that this is a Trumpet Plague.

Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

A mighty angel came down from heaven to unlock the bottomless pit.   Why was the bottomless pit locked?  Because it was full of demons, and no doubt Paul and other Christians including end time ones put them there.

Now look at verses 2 and 3.

Revelation 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

These demons were given power.  Had they been stripped of their power when they were put into the bottomless pit?  Is it automatic or do we take it away?

Go back to Luke 10:17, 19.

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

These demons being released in Rev. 9 are no doubt some of the ones that were subject to the original Seventy.

The word “power” in Rev. 9:3, is the same word as the first word power in Luke 10:19, Strong’s # 1849 meaning, ” (in the sense of ability, privilege, i.e. (subj.) force, capacity, competency, freedom…”  In Rev. 9:4, this power is used against the humans who do not have God’s Spirit.

Revelation 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

Rev. 9:11 tells us who their boss is, their king. It’s Satan.

Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

So what will you do?  Will you do Phil. 2:12?

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Will you do as James 4:7 commands?

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

“Resist” means “to stand against, or oppose.”  After we have this knowledge that there is another way, praying wont make the problem go away.  We have to go one on one with Satan and these demons.  Judge, try, condemn, punish, and send them to the place they fear most.  Their execution date is set for a time after the millennium.  That’s a done deal.  We have no part in that judgment.  God the Father and Christ have already decided their fate.

We have to do our judging in this life as we try to work out our salvation with fear and trembling as we wrestle or fight not against flesh and blood, but against the evil powers of darkness of this world the spiritual wickedness in high places.

The evil “powers that be,” Satan and his demons are subject to us if we believe and use God’s word correctly.

Again in 2 Cor. 10:3-5 we are told that our warfare is spiritual, not against flesh and blood.

2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

You will be amazed when you start to see how much Satan influences our minds even after we understand how to deal with demons.  Notice what it says in verse 4, for the weapons of warfare are not carnal or after the flesh.  All through this paper I’ve been showing you how to deal on a spiritual level.  This word “mighty” is Strong’s #1415 meaning, “powerful or capable…”

Remember what it said in Luke 10:17, that the seventy said the demons were subject (subordinate) to them through Christ name.

In 2 Cor. 10:4 “Pulling down” is Strong’s #2506 meaning, “demolition, fig. extinction…”  “Strong holds” is Strong’s #3794 meaning, “(to fortify through the idea of holding safely)…”   Without the spiritual knowledge discussed in this paper, there is no way we can attack and pull down these spirit beings.  It is only through Christ’s name that we have any chance at all.   Luke 10:19 tells us we have the power (ability) to tread (or trample) on demons.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

2 Cor. 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

“Casting down” is Strong’s # 2507 meaning, “to lower (or with violence) demolish…”  This is not some kind of kid’s game we are playing with Satan and the demons.  We are playing hard ball.  Our part in the kingdom has to be taken from Satan.  If it means spiritual violence, so be it.  Christ has ordained and made power available to us.

“Imaginations” is Strong’s #3053.  This word is from Strong’s #3069, “computation, i.e. (fig) reasoning (conscience conceit) imagination, thought.”

Continuing with verse 5, “high thing” is Strong’s # 5313, “an elevated place or thing, i.e. abstr., altitude or (by impl) a barrier…”   In these verses we as humans are dealing with these evil “powers that be” and the influence they have on our minds.

James 4:1-3 gives us a sad commentary on the human life style and the Christian life style as we live it.  Here is life without the proper knowledge of how to deal with the evil “powers that be.”

James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?  2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.   3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

We ask and receive not; we desire to have and cannot obtain.  Why?

Because praying won’t make it go away.  As Christians mature in the end time, we go into a different level of combat with Satan.  We take the combat to the demons that get in our way.

We all as babes and adolescents in Christ have had countless prayers answered.  Don’t think for a second that every answered prayer is from God.  Satan hears and answers what I would call marginal prayers and God allows this in some cases.  As we mature as Christians, we can look back and see this. I can recall some of these in my own life.  But as we mature as Christians our battles with the demons and Satan intensify as we try to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Remember what was covered earlier, that the Kingdom suffers violence and the violent take it by force.  Also as mentioned earlier in this and other papers, we have to judge, try and condemn, and sentence these demons.  Trample them under foot as we force our way into the kingdom.

So the decision is yours and mine.  Will you fight Satan and his demons to the bloody end, the resurrection?  If you will, you have to be an active Christian, not passive.  After you have access to this knowledge, praying won’t make it go away.  Stand up and slug it out with Satan and his demons. This will force us to have a personal relationship with Christ, as He is the only source of the power for us to use in this battle.

There’s a lot more to this thing of the “powers that be.”  I’m going to raise some questions that I don’t have answers for at this time in late June 2000.

Questions #1: If we have power to trample on demons, why can’t we put Satan in the bottomless pit along with them? As of today Sabbath afternoon June 23, 2000 I don’t know the answer.

I do know that in the past two or three months, I have stood Satan down five times with the threat of putting him in the bottomless pit. The first two times I had the results of him backing down in five hours each time. Another time he produced results in 20 minutes. The last time he was within 45 minutes of being sent to the pit. (I am reviewing this paper May 28, 2006. Now I have to think this may have been some other powerful demon.)  The other one was May 31st 2000 deadline on closing a house that Satan had blocked the sale of for ten months. I was going to sentence him to 10 years in the pit, if the house didn’t close on the 31st.

Satan has got his ways of dodging the bullet. My part of the closing was done on the May 31st about one-thirty P.M. and the buyers did their part later that afternoon, but some of it spilled over till June 1.

Frankly, I think Satan is too smart to be put in the bottomless pit. That brings up another point I want to cover shortly, the demon hierarchy; but first look at Rev. 9. In verse 1 an angel unlocks the bottomless pit. Why is it locked? Because it is full of demons! Did you send some there? Did Paul, Peter, John, etc.? I did and have and will, and in most cases I send them into solitary confinement.

Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

These demons were given power. Why? Were they stripped of their power while they were in the pit? It’s a good bet they were.

Verse 11 clinches the fact that they were demons, since Satan is their king. This confinement in the bottomless pit and apparently stripped of their power is what they fear most. I covered this in part one.

Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

I have to wonder if perhaps the number of demons released goes into the billions in Rev. 9. They are so numerous that it looks like smoke as they come out of the pit. And I’m sure it is understood that all of them aren’t in the pit.

As I mentioned earlier, I want to touch on the demon hierarchy. So far I haven’t found a lot in the Bible about it. Rev. 9:11 tells us who is at the top of this hierarchy, also Mark 3:11 – And the scribes which came down from Jerusalemsaid, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils. “Prince” is Strong’s #758 meaning, “first (in rank, or power), chief (ruler)…”

Did we see the same system in place in the Worldwide Church of God? Do we see the same hierarchy in the Catholic Church?

If Satan is the god of this world, 2 Cor. 4:4, wouldn’t he pattern his church government after what he has in the demonic realm? There will be some more on the devil hierarchy at the end of this paper.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

How was it in the Worldwide Church of God? In WCG and now in some of its splinter groups, if you get out of line someone over your puts you out of the church. This could also be true in other folds of God’s Church.

In Mark 5:9 and Luke 8:30 shows us there were legion commanders.

Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

Luke 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.

“Many” in both verses is Strong’s # 4183 meaning, “much in any respect, largely, mostly…”

It’s the same word used in Mt. 22:14: For many are called, but few are chosen.

In Mark 5:9 one demon (probably the most powerful) does the talking and also in Luke 8:30. It seems one demon did the talking again the most powerful, no doubt. Any of you men or women who have been in the military know about company or battalion commanders, drill sergeants, etc. These two accounts seem to portray situations of total slavery and complete domination to the point that these slave demons are nameless and don’t even have talking rights. It reminds me of some male dominated marriages that I’ve seen. Read Matthew 8:28-29 and Luke 8:27.

Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

“Devils” in both these verses is plural. Were these additional demons there voluntarily, or were they slaves of a more powerful demon? This brings up another question. Do Satan and the more powerful demons use intimidation to force other demons to do things that will cause us to send them to the bottomless pit?

I remember very well the intimidation I felt being a member of the Worldwide Church of God from 1967 till 1995. I feared to do or say anything that would get me put out of the church. I thought that church was the only door to salvation. With the murderous hate the demons have for humans, it’s certainly hard for me to believe that there is not a lot of the same thing among themselves.

In today’s human world the strong rules and lords it over the weaker. I would bet on the same thing going on in the spirit world of demons. At this point I don’t have a verse that shows intimidation, but in most all of human hierarchies, it is a factor. Lets look at a potential scenario of how this might work involving demon intimidation.

Let’s say you have a problem on the job. After acquiring all this knowledge about how to deal with demons that God gives us in the Bible, at least for now, you are sure that this problem is caused by a demon. So you command this demon to go into the bottomless pit in Jesus Christ’s name. But the next day the problem continues. What’s wrong? Is God word untrue? Is this some kind of cruel joke Christ is playing on us? Is Luke 9:1 and 10:17-20 some sort of lie? Are the demons really not subordinate to us after all through Christ name as promised in Luke 10:17?

Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Or do Satan and the more powerful demons have a long string of other less powerful demons standing in line to replace the one that you just sent to the pit? Is what Satan and the other powerful demons can do to a less powerful demon worse than being sent to the bottomless pit? Like I said earlier I don’t have answer for all this right now. What I’ve been doing is sending the intimidator or intimidators to the pit also. We have to do a lot of shooting in the dark as we learn how to deal with demons.

I would ask one question concerning 2 Cor. 12:7: And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

Was this messenger of Satan intimidated by Satan to harass Paul? Or did he do it by his own free will? I don’t know.

Another question, at times did Paul out of frustration send these harassing demons to the pit, and Satan constantly replaced them? Here again I don’t know. I want to revisit that verse later in this paper. One thing is for sure, some body sure sent a lot of demons to the pit, and I think this includes all Christians throughout time.

Rev 9:1  And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

Another factor that I don’t have complete understanding of is found in Dan. 7:25.

Dan 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

“Wear out” is Strong’s #1080 corresponding to #1086, “(used only in a mental sense) to afflict – wear out.”

If there is a demon hierarchy, it’s very easy for me to see how the saints could be worn out in many ways with the more powerful demons replacing the ones sent to the pit as fast as they are sent there. Let’s look at some verses, which certainly indicate a hierarchy of power among the righteous angels. Remember that Satan and apparently Gabriel were locked in a power struggle, and Michael had to come and tip the balance of power. I had always assumed that the archangels were the most powerful except possibly the elders who sit around God’s Throne. But notice this in Rev. 20:1-3.

Rev. 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

This angel didn’t need any help in handling Satan.

Could it have been one of the Elders? I don’t know, but apparently there is at least one angel who is greater in power than the archangels.

Certainly Rev. 12:7 shows a power structure. The two generals in charge are Michael and Satan, and if human armies are patterned after angelic armies, there would be various positions of power under the Generals.

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

Rev. 14:18 indicates that there is a power structure among the righteous angels. Notice that he gave a command to another angel. This angel is apparently the general over fire. Is this the angel that sent the fire and consumed the fifties and their captains of Elijah day? Will he be backing up the two witnesses in Rev. 11:5?

Revelation 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Revelation 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

Revelation 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

Does he control the intensity of lighting bolts that strike the earth? “Fire” in Rev. 11:5 and 10:1 is Strong’s # 4442 meaning, “fire (lit. or fig. especially lightening) fiery, fire.”

Notice in Rev. 18:1, this angel has great power. “Great” is Strong’s # 3173 meaning, “BIG, (lit. or fig. in very wide application)…”

Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

Why does God say that this angel has great “big” power? It certainly makes a difference between Him and the ones who have smaller amounts of power.

Notice also in Revelation 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

“Mighty” is Strong’s # 2478 meaning, “forcible…” Here again angels seemed to be distinguished by the amount of power they have.

Now notice Revelation 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

“Mighty” here also is the same word, Strong’s # 2478.  These mighty men in this verse are compared to kings and captains. “Captains” is Strong’s # 5506 meaning, “the commander of a thousand soldiers…”

From all the verses above, it is obvious that there is a hierarchy in the angelic world, probably based on the power the angels were created with.  Another possibility is age.  I doubt that all angels were created at the same time.  It could have taken thousands of years.  Certainly,  if the fallen angels were created in the same structure before they went bad,  it would still exist today.

Now go to Revelation 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Both Berry’s Greek to English Interlinear and Green’s Greek to English Interlinear translate the phrase “given unto him,” as “given unto it.”

Let’s go back to 2 Corinthians 12:7. Is this demon hierarchy or common consent?

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

“Messenger” is Strong’s #32, “(to bring tidings), a messenger, esp. an “angel…” It is clear that Satan had the authority to send this demon. It is also clear from the Bible that Satan has the power enforce him going.

What about this “buffeting.” It is Strong’s #2852 meaning, “to rap with the fist.”

God in some instances overrides everything else as he did in Paul’s case when He overrode Paul’s three prayers and allowed the messenger from Satan to continue attacking him. This no doubt will happen to many of us as we learn and get into “pest” demon control.

(Today July 16, 2000 I’m facing this same situation in one sense. My wife and I have another house for sale that won’t sell. I fully suspect that Satan has it blocked, so I have him under a deadline of July 17 to release it or face 10 years in the bottomless pit.)

So what if nothing happens come July 17? I have to assume one of two things, either God’s word is untrue, or God has overridden everything else and it is his doing that the house won’t sell now. (Today is Jun 18, 2002, and the house did not sell, but has been leased for over a year.)

There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that God’s word is true, so I will go with the latter.

I’m not sure we will ever have a full grasp as humans of everything going on and affecting us in the spirit world, since we can not see spirit.

It’s obvious from God’s word that we can’t send every demon to the bottomless pit. Part of this also may be that they can easily outsmart us, since we can not see them.

I have continuous, everyday problems with my cell phone. But here again I have a doubt or question if everything that happens is demon caused. The phone has had rough treatment, and been dropped numerous times, very hard on some occasions, even repaired once. It sure is frustrating not to be sure. This type of situation can start to wear on us. The only way to solve this is to get a new phone and put Satan under threat of prison if he does not control his subjects, the demons. When dealing with demons, assume the worst. If you think that it is possible for a demon to be involved, send him to the pit.

Let’s get back to Paul’s buffeting, the rapping with the fist. I’ve heard it speculated in the Worldwide Church of God that the thorn in the flesh was his eyes, maybe, maybe not.

The scenario I will lay out here makes a lot more sense. If someone raps you with his fist, it will cause pain, depending on the severity of the hit. Look at the following examples of the possible rapping by Satan and the demons.

2 Corinthians 11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. 24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. 25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;

26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

What a hellish life Paul lived. This messenger from Satan, II Cor 12:7, made sure that life was tough for Paul.

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

Something we need to realize here, it goes without saying that among the “powers that be” that Christ and the Father sit right on the top.

I have no trouble imaging that Paul out of frustration at times sent some of the demons in Rev. 9 to the bottomless pit. After all he knew all about judging angels, I Cor 6:3, Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

When we read II Cor. 12:7-9, it’s quite obvious that the two top powers can override and make null and void any of the other powers that be, even the power that Christ gives his disciples (learners) in Luke 10:19, the ability to walk on Satan.

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Maybe Paul was powerless against this messenger of Satan. That sure is a bad feeling, “been there and done that” as they say. I’ve experienced this feeling a number of times. Some of these experiences have been resolved as I gained more knowledge about Satan and the demons and how to deal with them. But there is a number of issues in my personal like today August 6, 2000, that it seems that God has overridden every other aspect and is saying plainly to me through circumstance, shut up and wait, or this is my will and it will be done. Regardless it is a frustrating to the max. to be Satan’s slave and powerless to do anything about it. Just a couple days ago I made the comment to my wife, I am still Satan slave, he has his chain around my neck in a certain situations in my life.

I’ve backed Satan down in many instances in the last few months but there are two or three that I seem powerless to deal with, but I keep shooting in the dark as I gain a little more knowledge here and there about demons.

Let’s see where we as humans (Christians) fit in the structure of the “powers that be.” Where do we stand against Satan in power? You may be surprised as this sinks in.

Read Daniel 10:12-13. Notice the term “prince of the kingdom of Persia” in verse 13.

Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Jamieson, Fausset and Brown’s Commentary on the Bible says of this, “the angel of Darkness that represented the Persian world power to which Israel was then subject.” The end time Israel of God the church is also subject to thisangel of darkness (Satan). That example was just a prototype for us to imitate. Apparently this stand off or lock down of power was equal between these two powerful beings, and it took Michael to swing the struggle to the side of Good. Daniel 12:1 and Daniel 10:21 indicate that Michael is the angel that looks after the church.

Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy peopleshall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Daniel 10:21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

There’s a valuable lesson here about the “powers that be.” Why didn’t God the Father and Christ just tip the balance of power in this three-week fight between the forces of good and evil? Not only did Christ and the Father do nothing to interfere in this fight, but also they allowed it to continue.

Daniel 10:20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

If this was Gabriel, he went on the offensive after dealing with Daniel. Will you be a passive or aggressive Christian? Apparently the Father and Christ just watched and let these archangels fight it out. Think about that in relation to humans versus Satan and his demons. Is praying going to make it go away? Or are we going to have to slug it out with Satan as Christ and the Father watch? What does James 4:7 say?

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

“Resist” is Strong’s # 436 meaning, “to stand against, i.e. oppose…” It says to me we’ve got to slug it out, and praying wont make it go away. The end time Christians have to deal with power: power against power. Fight fire with fire. Don’t be surprised as you learn to deal with Satan’s fiendish mind the way things escalate to new levels.

We end time Christian need no help other than Christ, in that we don’t have to team up with another Christian, as Michael and Gabriel did, to swing the balance of power to the side of Good. We go one on one with Satan with Christ furnishing the power. That’s why Phil. 2:12 says what it does.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

And also Mt. 28:18,

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Review again Luke 10:17-20. In verse 17, “subject” is Strong’s # 5293 meaning, to subordinate, to obey, to be under obedience…

In verse 19, “power” is Strong’s # 1849 meaning, “(in the sense of ability;) privilege, i.e. force, capacity…”

“Tread” is Strong’s #3961, “(meaning a “path”) to trample, (lit. or fig.) tread (down under foot).”

“Serpent” is Strong’s #3789 meaning, “(through the idea of sharpness of vision) a snake, fig. (as a type of sly cunning) an artful malicious person, especially Satan – serpent.”

With the power Christ gives us, through our believing his word and acting on it we have more power against Satan than Michael, Gabriel, and the other archangels. Our power through Christ rates right up there with the example found in Rev. 20:1-2.

Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years”

See this angel is stronger than Michael, Gabriel, Satan and the other archangels, if there are more. This angel did the job all by himself.

“Laid hold” is Strong’s #2902 meaning, “to use strength, i.e. seize or retain…”

Can you start to see were you fit into the grand scheme of things among the Powers that Be?   Why would Christ and the Father design it like this? Christ is our way to salvation. There’s no obtaining salvation except by going through Christ. We have to have that personal relationship, brother to brother, brother to sister, with Him.  We have to have His mind, Phil. 2:5, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

If we draw on Christ’s strength to deal with our tormentors, Satan and the demons create in us tremendous faith so we able to deal with these devils. Their whole purpose is to take your salvation, to make you lose it like they have lost theirs. If Gods word is true, Satan already has every end time Christian’s salvation in his hand and these two mighty Gods have allowed it.

If Mt. 25:5 is true, we are all destined to the lake of fire. Will a sleep walking Christian be able to please the Father and Christ?

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

As we blunder along asleep, we are all wrapped up in Satan’s deceptions. Unless we heed the cry at midnight, Mt. 25:6, that shouts out spiritual knowledge to us to wake us up spiritually, we are all spiritually doomed.

Matthew 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

That’s why it says the kingdom of God suffers violence, Mt. 11:12.

Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

The forcers seize the Kingdom. Review the definition on page 7 of the first article THE POWERS THAT BE. It’s God’s will that we slug it out with Satan and the demons. Will you submit to God’s will that you have seen laid out in His word and begin to take your salvation away from Satan? Start relying on Christ’s power to actively do something and to change situations in your life. Satan and these demons will try to drag us along the bottom in many major situations. Being a passive Christian won’t get it, as we wake up in the end time. We have to be aggressive and go on the attack against these demons as we see their evil works unfold in our daily lives. James 4:7 is no joke. It is acommand and one of the keys to the kingdom.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

“Resist” is Strong’s #436 meaning, “to stand against…”

I’ve shown your how to stand against Satan. The choice is yours. If you are willing to do it, you can send these demons to the bottomless pit and leave them there until Christ releases them at the fifth trumpet plague. Deut. 30:15 and19 are true.

Deuteronomy 30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

These two verses show us that this is a daily choice that we have to make. What will you do?

This is a postscript to this paper. It is Aug. 18, 2000 and a couple of months have passed since I was writing about the demon hierarchy.

In writing the paper “Our Delivery from Slavery,” some more of God’s truth hidden in the Bible became known. It is generally understood that Pharaoh is a type of Satan. It would not be hard to convince yourself of this if you did a Bible study on the subject.

Ezekiel 29:3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.

Keep in mind I Cor 10:11.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

“Examples” is Strong’s #5179: “a die (as struck), i.e. (by impl.) a stamp or scar; by anal. a shape, i.e. statue, (fig.) style or resemblance; spec. a sampler (“type”), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning).”

Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study New Testament says: “type, as a constituent element of a parable or model of some reality which was yet to appear, a prototype of that which was yet to be developed and evolved.”

“Admonition” is Strong’s #3559: “calling attention to, i.e. (by impl.) mild rebuke or warning.”

“World” is Strong’s #165: “prop. an age; by extens. perpetuity (also past); by impl. the world; spec. (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future):—age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-]ever, (beginning of the , while the) world (began, without end).”

In regard to the demon hierarchy, go to Ex. 9:20-21.

Exodus 9:20 He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: 21 And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.

Notice the phrase, “among the servants of Pharaoh.” Pharaoh is a prototype of Satan. So Satan has servants, but notice also that these servants of Satan have servants also. These servants of Satan made their servants flee into the shelters. Notice also in verse 21 that some of these servants of Satan didn’t pay any attention to this mighty Jesus Christ who was doing the plaguing, and they left their servants out to die.

Read my paper on our delivery from slavery for more information on this.

This word “servant” is Strong’s # 5650 which means, “a servant:-X bondage, bondman…” It comes from Strong’s #5647 which means, “to work (in any sense) by impl. to serve, till (caus.) enslave…”

A question I would ask is, were they created to be servants of Satan? Were the servants of the servants created to that spot? I doubt this was the case. There is good reason to believe from the Bible that these servant demons or possibly righteous angels were taken into slavery by Satan and other powerful demons in their downfall. I intend to cover this in a paper eventually.

Notice Mark 5:9.

Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

What does the legion commander as I call him say? He says “My name is Legion, for we are many.” Why didn’t he say our name is Legion? If the other demons had any rights, wouldn’t he have said it like that? He speaks as though they are one unit or organism.

It seems that these demons under the Legion have no rights at all, more like an octopus having one head and eight tentacles.
