ZECHARIAH CHAPTER 4

Read Zechariah Chapter 3 Article Here.

Zechariah 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, 2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: 3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

In verse 1 of chapter 4, Zechariah is seeing a vision.  He is put into a trance or dream, (or however God does this).

In verse 2, six out of the seven translations I checked translated “candlestick” as “lampstand.”  Only the King James translates this word as “candlestick.”

What is the bowl on the top of the lampstand with the seven pipes to the seven lamps?

Notice in verse 3, that there are two olive trees: one on the right side and one on the left side of the lampstand.  The two trees are the Father and Jesus Christ, who feed the olive oil (Holy Spirit) into the bowl.  The bowl then feeds the olive oil (Holy Spirit) out to the seven churches through the seven pipes.  Who or what does the bowl represent?

Who does God guarantee to send at the end time?

Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Matthew 17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. 12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. 13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

If God does not send Elijah the prophet at the end time, this whole salvation scenario is a lie and we will have no salvation.  Remember that this is an end-time time setting: review Zechariah 3: 8-10, last part of verse 8, last part of 9 and verse 10.  Zechariah 4:14 also mentions the two witnesses.

Now refer back to Zechariah 3:1-2:

1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

This “Joshua the high priest” was snatched from the fire.  Remember the priest gets the word at God’s mouth:

Malachi 2:7 For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

Ezekiel 33:7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

Jeremiah 1:9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

This Joshua the high priest referred to in the book of Zechariah must be Elijah the prophet.  As mentioned in chapter 3, there is no promise to send an end-time high priest or Zerubbabel, as mentioned in Zechariah 4:6.

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

A prophet knows what God is doing:

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

It seems to be clear that this Joshua the high priest is Elijah the prophet.  In the parable of the Marriage Supper (Banquet), Luke 14:16-24, the servant (singular) is sent by God at the end time to the virgins to get repentance out of them. (Read the paper:  “The Marriage Supper”)

Luke 14:16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

As we will see later, this end-time Elijah is also the Zerubbabel of Zechariah chapter 4.  The message of Zechariah 4:2-3 is to Zerubbabel:

Zechariah 4:2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: 3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

What are the seven lamps on the lamp stand in verse 2?  Notice Revelation 1:12-13:

12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Here again, most translations say “lampstand.”  In verse 13, Christ is in the middle of the seven lampstands.  In Revelation 1:11, John was told to write this down and send it to the seven churches.  Now notice in verse 16, Christ has seven stars in his hand.  See how this is explained in verse 20.  The seven stars are the seven angels of the seven churches.  The seven candlesticks (lampstands) are the seven churches.

Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength….20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Now read Revelation 2:1 and notice what Christ claims.  He is closely and deeply involved in these seven churches as well as the seven angels that are assigned to them:

Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

Zechariah 4:4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? 5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

In verse 4, Zechariah is puzzled.  Notice what he said: “What are these, my lord?”

In verse 5, the angel responded, “Don’t you know what this means?”

Verse 6 is a personal message to Zerubbabel from God.  (As an aside, chapters 3 and 4 contain many direct messages to the end-time Elijah, straight to him from God.  However, the Bible is written for the end-time Christian (I Corinthians 10: 11) and it is given to us to know the times and the seasons (Acts 1:7) but not the first century Christians.

Back to this personal message from God to Zerubbabel:  Notice the phrase “not by might” in verse 6.

“Might” is Strong’s #2428: “a force, whether of men, means, or other resources…”  Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study Dictionary Old Testament says of this word “might”: “might, strength, power, able, valiant, virtuous, valor, army, host, forces, riches, substance, wealth…”

“Power” is Strong #3581: “to be firm, vigor, lit. (force in a good or bad sense) fig. capacity, means produce.”

Isn’t the message clear to this end-time Zerubbabel?  “Hey! Pay attention to your Creator!”  God is saying. “There is to be NO big corporate organization, sucking off God’s tithe money.”  God says, “My Holy Spirit is going to do this work, (Romans 9:28).  Your corporate groups, with their pooled resources won’t be able to do this work, Zerubbabel.  Don’t try it.”  (Review the definitions of “power” and “might,” above.)

Romans 9:28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

In Zechariah 3:2-4, God is saying to this man: “Pay attention Elijah!  (a.k.a. Joshua, a.k.a. the high priest, a.k.a. Zerubbabel).  Don’t try to repeat what you were a part of while you were in the synagogue of Satan.”

Zec 3:2  And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Zec 3:3  Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

Zec 3:4  And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

Revelation 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

“Remember, you are a brand plucked from the fire.  You were doomed in your sins.  I took the filthy clothes from you, and forgave you.  I put clean clothes on you.  Pay attention to My written word!”

Study Zechariah 4:6 (on page 3) carefully.  This is the way God is going to do the work.  Not by using big forces or strong groups.  Not with large pools of money, but “by my spirit,” says almighty God to this man, Zerubbabel.

Remember, the true Philadelphians have a little strength and an open door:

Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

They turn many to righteousness:

Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

They water what Elijah has sown:

1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

The message to the Philadelphians gives no indication of a large corporate organization doing the end-time work.  In fact, Daniel 12:7 says the opposite:

Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

“Scatter” is Strong’s #5310: “to dash to pieces, or scatter, to be beaten in sunder, break (in pieces), broken…”

Remember the lampstand with the bowl on top, feeding the Holy Spirit to the seven churches through the seven pipes.  The bowl is constantly filled by the two olive trees that stand on either side of it.

On to verse 7:

Zechariah 4:7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

What obstacles can stand before this Zerubbabel?  The greatest mountain barrier will be leveled before this man.

Now back to Elijah for a few words.  Where does God promise to send Zerubbabel in the end time?  The Bible does not say, “I will send you Zerubbabel, governor, in the end time.”  The Old Testament Zerubbabel was a governor of the Jews, not a prophet:

Haggai 1:1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

The Zerubbabel spoken of in Zechariah has to be Elijah, since he will be in charge of teaching God’s people.  (Very loosely in charge, I might add).  God’s people have to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12), and are personally accountable to God (Revelation 20:12).  Shortly, we will see more clearly that this Zerubbabel is Elijah.

Phi 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Rev 20:12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

“Zerubbabel” is Strong’s #2216, meaning “descended of (i.e. from) Babylon i.e. born there…”

The Worldwide Church of God taught that Zerubbabel was a type of Christ, and, until recently, I agreed with this belief.  After studying this for myself, I am convinced that we need to be more careful how we use the term “Zerubbabel.”  I don’t believe Christ will go for this analogy of him “descending from Babylon.”

Christ and Zerubbabel have in common the laying of the foundation for the temple.  Zerubbabel laid the literal foundation of the temple, but the church is Christ’s temple foundation.  The Zerubbabel of Zechariah 4 lays the foundation for the end-time church (temple).  He is the end-time Elijah, a.k.a. Joshua the high priest of Zechariah 3.

Remember Luke 1:17 (review on page 1) —only Elijah can “make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”  Can you find a promise for an end-time Joshua, high priest, or Zerubbabel to be sent to the end-time Christians?  I know of no promise other than God sending Elijah and the two witnesses.

Since Satan is the arch deceiver, as well as the arch enemy, of the end-time Christians, why wouldn’t he deceive us into thinking that Zerubbabel was a type of Christ?

Notice the spelling of Zerubbabel.  It carries Satan’s name, “Babel”, also “Baal.”  Satan wants to be God.

Zerubbabel was born in, and was from, Babylon.  This name has Satan written all over it.  The original Zerubbabel was a governor of the Jews, (Haggai 1:1) not a prophet or a priest.  He was, apparently, a dedicated servant of God during his day.

On to Zechariah 4:9:

Zechariah 4:9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

“Laid the foundation” is Strong’s #3245: “to set (lit. or fig.) intens., to found, reflex, to sit down together, i.e., to settle, consult…”  Zodhiates Complete Word Study Dictionary Old Testament says, “To establish, set, build up, lay a foundation, to appoint, assign, to be settled, to take counsel together, to ordain, to be founded, to be established…”

This word “house” is Strong’s #1004: “a house (in the greatest variety of applications) especially family…”

This Zerubbabel has laid the foundation of God’s house (family).  Revelation 7:1-4, 9 and 14 describe the portion of the family that the tribulation is held up for.  John 14:2 states, “In my father’s house are many mansions.”

Rev 7:1  And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Rev 7:2  And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

Rev 7:3  Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Rev 7:4  And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Rev 7:9  After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

Rev 7:14  And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Joh 14:2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Continuing with Zech 4:9, “and his hands shall also finish it.”  Remember in Zechariah 3, Joshua the high priest was plucked from the fire (lake of fire).  Remember the definition of brand: a rake or poker, something to stir the fire.

In Zechariah 3:3-4, Joshua was forgiven of his sins and cleaned up.  In verse 6-7, apparently this Joshua has to make a covenant with God.  In verse 7, God lays out the conditions.  In verse 8, Christ is mentioned as being brought forth (Branch).  This will be at the beginning of the millennium.  In Zechariah 3:9, Joshua has the stone (a method to build) given to him.  God claims that He will open wide the “graving”.

“Engrave” is Strong’s #6605 and means “to open wide…”  So, God will open wide the way to build.

“Graving” is Strong’s #6603 and means “a pass. part. of 6605, meaning ‘sculpture…'”

Now back to Zechariah 4:9.  So how did Zerubbabel lay the foundation of the house of God?  This is the end-time house (family).  Isn’t the foundation already laid when we understand this prophesy?  Notice in verse 9, it looks like we get our understanding in the middle of something in process.  Notice it says Zerubbabel hands have laid the foundations.  “Have laid” is past tense, and notice “his hands will also finish it” is in the future.

Who or what human can lay the end-time foundation of God’s family other than Elijah the prophet?  Don’t Malachi 4:5, Matthew 17:10-13, and Luke 1:17 mean what they say?

Is there going to be a Joshua the high priest, Elijah and Zerubbabel all doing separate works in the end time?  No way.  The only way to explain Zechariah 3 and 4 is to understand that Joshua and Zerubbabel both represent the end-time Elijah.

Only the good seed, the true sheep, will understand this.  The tares and the potential good seed who have gone bad will not get it.

So how does Zerubbabel lay the foundation?  Is it laid inadvertently?  What happens when this brand, Joshua, is plucked from the fire?  In Zechariah 3:1, Satan is standing at his side to resist him:

Matthew 25:6 says that all the virgins are asleep.  It does not say all but one.  Was this Joshua, Zerubbabel, Elijah character asleep also when he was plucked from the fire?  You bet he was!  Notice Zechariah 3:3:

3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

Joshua was clothed in his sins.  He had to be forgiven, and clothed with a change of raiment.  God forgave him.  God must personally give this man his cry at midnight the information that will shock him awake.  How else can he be awakened?  He can’t wake himself up.

Now put yourself in his shoes.  What would you do if God shocked you awake with new truth after new truth?  Wouldn’t you automatically start to share it with your family, friends, acquaintances, and anyone who would listen?  And we would probably be shocked to know how few will actually listen to God’s real truth.

Does this man inadvertently lay the foundation through this effort to share his new truths with others?  “Foundation” is Strong’s #3245, meaning “to establish, set, build up, lay a foundation…”  Could this foundation inadvertently be laid in his zeal to share this newfound knowledge with his family and friends, etc.?  Might he even put it on the Internet?  Whatever the scenario, God says he has laid the foundation, and he will finish it.

This end-time Zerubbabel (Elijah) will probably have no clue as to what is going on in his life, other than knowing that everything has gone seriously out of kilter.  And I’m sure he will certainly be shocked at the small number of people who will actually believe God’s written word, unless an “ordained” minister says it.

I would suspect that Satan is allowed to resist this Joshua (Elijah), Zechariah 3:1, for a minimum of three years, since the number three does define God’s will.

Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

This word “resist” is Strong’s #7853, and according to Zodhiates’ Complete Word Study Old Testament it means: “to attack, accuse, be an adversary, to resist…”

Notice 2 Corinthians 12:8-9:

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

I sure don’t want Satan standing at my side for three years!  There is also a possibility that this period may be seven years, because seven is God’s number for completeness.  In all likelihood, quite a bit of this time is spent without Joshua (Elijah) knowing what is going on in his life.  God is, no doubt, using Satan’s efforts to hammer this man into shape.

In Zechariah 4, it appears that this man is charging on as best he could, with what tithe assets he has, and is fighting Satan all the while.  If this is not the case, then why is the question asked in verse 10, “who hath despised the day of small things?”

10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

“Small things” is Strong’s #6996: “abbreviated i.e. diminutive, lit. (in quantity size or number), or fig. (in age or importance) least, less…”  Will this man make an attempt to reach a few people with these precious truths, through written papers, posting papers on the church forums on the inter-net, or maybe by placing a web page in place along with fifty million other web pages out there?

My question is, at what point will this man recognize what is going on in his life?  You can know for sure that he will be catching hell from all sides, with all that personal attention from Satan.  But evidently, there are some small things (spiritual) in place and being despised for the question even to be asked in verse 10.

I feel strongly that a lot of Zechariah 3:4 and maybe most of the book of Haggai, are personal messages to the end-time Elijah.  But we, as end-time Christians, can understand it also because the Bible is written to us:

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Remember, Joshua had this stone laid before him.  “Stone” is Strong’s #68: “through the means to build…”

Now notice what this man, born in Babylon, (Zerubbabel), had in his hand: a plummet, of all things.   What is a plummet?  It is made up of two Hebrew words.  The first is Strong’s #68, which is the same word for “stone” in Zechariah 3:9, meaning “through the means to build.”  The second is Strong’s #913 meaning “alloy (because removed by smelting)…”

Strong’s #913 is taken from Strong’s #914, “a prime route, to divide (in a variety of senses, lit. or fig. separate, distinguish, differ, select” etc.).

Now notice in Zechariah 4:10 that the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel is a method to build—same as Joshua in Zechariah 3:9.  But also realize that the term “alloy” is used as the last part of the word “plummet.”  According toWebster’s II New College Dictionary, “alloy” means “a homogeneous mixture or solid solution, usually of two or more metals…”

So this plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel, this method to build will consist of mixtures, alloy, and blends.   Also remember that this stone, this method to build, of Joshua and Zerubbabel has seven eyes.  The last part of Zechariah 4:10 says these are the eyes of the Lord that run to and fro through the whole earth.

Now, keeping 1 Corinthians 10:11 in mind, the Bible is written for the end-time Christians, let’s turn to Revelation 1:11 and read what John saw in a vision.  In verse 16, Christ has seven stars in his hand.  In verse 19, John is instructed to write the things which are, and the things that shall be hereafter. Revelation 1:20 explains that the seven stars are the seven angels of the seven churches.  The seven candlesticks (lampstands) are the seven churches.

Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea…16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength… 19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; 20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

In Revelation 2:1, Christ claims that He holds the seven angels in His right hand and walks among the seven candlesticks, or churches.  Christ gives His church close personal attention.

Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

Is there any problem in assuming that angels do have eyes?  Wouldn’t it stand to reason that the angels of the seven churches would have eyes?  Would this be the eyes associated with the “stone” in Zechariah 3:9, and the stone in the first of the two Hebrew words that make up “plummet?”  See, this “plummet” (Strong’s #68) has seven eyes also, this method to build, which is in the hands of Zerubbabel.  Is it not a sure thing that these seven angels of the seven churches would run to and fro through the earth?  Notice, they are the eyes of the Lord (Zechariah 4:10).  I repeat, in Revelation 2:1, Christ claims that He holds these seven angles in His hand.  Are they not checking things out for Christ?  Reviewing what’s going on in the seven churches and reporting back to Him?

Are these seven churches, (which are scattered throughout the whole earth, among the different nations), going to contribute to the alloy, the blend, the mixture?  Go back and review the definition of “plummet” above.  Remember, you may be in a fold of Christ’s flock, but Christ has other folds also:

John 10:3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers…16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd…27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Remember also, this is the end-time, as Zechariah 3:8, 9 (last part), 10, and 4:14 clearly indicate:

Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. 9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. 10 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

Zechariah 4:14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

Let’s review Revelation 7:1-4, 9, 14.  The tribulation is held up so that the 144,000 Israelites can be sealed.  But the multitude that no man can number comes out of the tribulation, and will be a blend (“alloy,” of the definition of “plummet”) of all peoples:

Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. 2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel… 9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;…14… And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Now let’s continue in Zechariah 4.

Zechariah 4:11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? 12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? 13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. 14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

All the translations that I checked, other than the King James, translate “candlestick” as “lampstand.”   The lampstand has a bowl on top of it containing olive oil (Holy Spirit).  The two olive trees, one on either side of the lampstand, feed the bowl, which in turn feeds the seven lamps through the seven pipes of Zechariah 4:12.

The Amplified Bible adds to Zechariah 4:3, “feeding it continuously with oil.”  “Olive trees” in verse 11 is Strong’s #2132, (that is the same number as olive trees in Zechariah 4), “meaning an olive (as yielding illuminating oil), the tree, the branch or the berry…”  These two olive trees have to be the Father and Christ.  They are the only sources of the Holy Spirit.  They feed the bowl on the top of the lampstand, and seven pipes feed the seven lamps (“churches” in Revelation 1:20).  But notice there are two Golden pipes, as mentioned in Zechariah 4:12, in addition to the two pipes that feed the bowl.

This word “branches” is Strong’s #7641: “a stream, (as flowing), also an ear of grain (as growing out), by analogy, a branch, a branch channel…”  Now, we have two olive branches stemming off from the two olive trees, still in verse 12, through which the two golden pipes empty the golden oil (Holy Spirit).

In verses 13 and 14, these are the two anointed ones that stand before the Lord of the earth.  This is clearly referring to the two witnesses of Revelation 11:3-12.  Does the golden oil that is being emptied out represent the works of the two witnesses?  Their works will be the exact will of the Father and Christ.  You could say that these two guys are possessed with the Holy Spirit.

This fascinating, intriguing story of the end-time Joshua-Zerubbabel, a.k.a. Elijah the prophet, continues in the book of Haggai.  Be sure to read my article “Haggai.”  Ponder the thought “where is the promise to send Zerubbabel or Joshua at the end time?”  Elijah is the only promise, Malachi 4:5, Luke 1:17, Matthew 17:10-13.
